Join Mass Young Birders at Mount Wachusett for a morning of hawk watching at the highest point in eastern Massachusetts, and catching up with other young birders!

In September, huge numbers of hawks are passing through Massachusetts on their way south. Hawks use rising warm air to soar high, so we will expect to see increasing numbers as the morning warms up. We'll also look for other birds who are migrating south, as well as year-round residents.

WHERE: Mount Wachusett summit parking lot. Parking costs $5 per car at Wachusett Mountain State Reservation, and carpooling is encouraged.

WHEN: Saturday, September 24th, 9 AM - 11 AM. Gate to the parking lot opens at 9 AM.

WHAT TO BRING: Even though summer is in the rear view mirror, don't forget sunscreen! It can get windy where we'll be, so we also recommend a jacket. Water and snacks are recommended!

ACCESSIBILITY: This event is free; however, Bathrooms, vending machines, and water will be available. The summit is flat but rocky. However, a concrete platform (where the hawk watch takes place) is accessible via wheelchair. This will be a stationary activity, with opportunities to walk around the summit.
